Jez Langhorn | SVP, Chief People Officer | McDonald's

Prior to working with McDonald’s USA HR team, Jez Langhorn was responsible for Human Resources, Education, Training & Development and Customer Services in the UK. In addition, Jez also played a key role in aligning the People strategies of the Company’s Northern Europe Division and led McDonald’s sponsorship of the volunteering program for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Jez has held a number of roles in Operations, Franchising and Human Resources since joining McDonald’s in 1984 as a crew member while studying at college. Since 2006, Jez has been central to McDonald’s UK People Strategy which has played a significant part in the turnaround of the UK business and driven reappraisal of employment at McDonald’s. He is now based in the US and is responsible for HR for 7,000 restaurants from Chicago west to California.

Jez has pioneered several industry-leading initiatives, such as the accreditation of McDonald’s as an awarding body and the subsequent introduction of nationally recognized qualifications, ranging from apprenticeships to degrees; the use of leading-edge technology to engage with predominantly young, techno-savvy employees; and the creation of an on-going, disruptive promotional campaign to challenge inaccurate preconceptions about working in the hospitality sector.

These initiatives have resulted in numerous industry awards and McDonald’s inclusion in several significant Business rankings such as; The Sunday Times Top 25 Best Big Companies list, The Times Top 50 Employers for Women and the Financial Times Top 50 Great Places to Work. Jez is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Council member of City & Guilds. He lives in Chicago with his wife and two daughters.
