For some, the 25th of last month meant one thing: Christmas in July. While it may seem silly to deck the halls in flip-flops, employers could actually learn a thing or two from these eager revelers.

Preparing your business for the holidays, specifically seasonal hiring, is a process that should be started long before the temperatures drop. If last year’s data is any indication, the seasonal job market can be expected to be the busiest time of the year. Here are a few stats from our 2012 seasonal hiring report to help you get in the holiday (hiring) spirit:

More managers are hiring. And at an average of 6 employees per hiring manager, there was an increase of 50 percent more hires in 2012. By starting earlier, you can beat competing employers to the punch and find the best seasonal hires sooner.

Expect an increase in sales. Last year, 32 percent of hiring managers expect a rise in sales during the holidays. With numbers like that, taking care of the seasonal additions to your staff will ease some of the burden of the holiday rush.

Hiring ends around Halloween. 57 percent of the managers surveyed stated that seasonal hiring would be completed in October. Make sure to mark your calendars in order to make the most of your own seasonal hiring.
